About DA’VILLE

The Big Bad Singer Da’Ville, aka Orville Thomas, the lead singer of the once renowned reggae dancehall boys group ARP (A Raw Perspective) is taken his solo career to new heights. It all began at the age of 16; Da’Ville wrote and recorded his first single under the influence of his father. “I voiced the first song for him, my first real recording”. Prior to that, the Jamaican born native had been using his natural talent singing at the St. Peter’s Clever Church choir and performing at local school functions. Da’Ville enjoyed singing so much that he knew from an early age that music would be at the forefront of his career goals. “I once thought that I would become an accountant or a manager for a large corporation, but music influenced me so much that I felt a sense of satisfaction using it as a medium to express my life experiences. In the end, my music became my greatest influence, passion and joy.”

Sierra Nevada World Music Festival 2007 Soon Come!

Filed under: Reggae Events — bigupradio @ 1:55 pm
Sierra Nevada World Music Festival is less then four months away, and is the first major summer reggae festival of the season. This will be SNWMF’s second time in the beautiful town of Boonville CA. This festival has brought a worldwide line-up of artists to the small hamlet in Mendocino county. Expect a little better organization with camping and parking. Hopefully the Mendocino county sheriffs  will leave their dogs at the station this year, as they have seen what a peaceful vibe  “Sierra” brings to the Coast Range hills.

Last Years performance highlights include the legendary singer Ken Boothe, the original, great, Daddy U RoyDon Carlos, who is always so good to his loyal fans, one Rastaman that is blessed and humble all the while. Michael Prophet from old school Yabby You sounds was there. New talent like the Neutral Sisters gained many more fans after their set ended. Fantan Mojah brought his soulful and reverent songs hailing the King as only Fantan could.

This years line-up has yet to be fully announced. The two bands that are confirmed as of now, is the multi-talented artist that needs no introduction, Junior Kelly. His album, and title track song “Love So Nice” swept over the reggae massive worldwide and dominated airwaves after its release in 2001. His sophomore album “Smile”(2003), and third album “ Tough Life” released in 2005 have had great reception in the global reggae community.

The second band announced, is the amazing group of musicians from Africa, The Sierra Leone Refugee All Stars. This band brings together musicians who survived the civil war of Sierra Leone, by living as refugees in The Republic of Guinea. This is modern roots reggae music out of Africa, and is the real deal, yu nuh wha mi seh? Their CD titled “Living Like A Refugee” is a two disc album recorded both in the field at the refugee camp in  Guinea, and in full session format at Island studio in Sierra Leone, Africa.

Stay tuned for future announcements on other artists added to the lineup by checking out Sierra Nevada World Music Festival’s website, www.snwmf.com , or here at www.bigupradio.com Be sure to tell your friends and family as this is a must stop destination on the summer festival tour.

REALITY TIME #47 with the TWINKLE BROTHERS on Bigupradio.com

Filed under: Reggae Artists, Reggae Podcasts — bigupradio @ 1:55 pm
The legendary TWINKLE BROTHERS visit REALITY TIME this week on Bigupradio.com Dancehall. REALITY TIME is hosted by the furious DJ Kurious and mic master MC Taiyefoon and this week they will interview Norman and Ralston Grant a.k.a. The Twinkle Brothers. The Twinkle brothers have been bringing the best roots reggae for over 30 years with dozens of amazing albums. And they are still making history! Don’t miss this exciting event. Tune in this and every Sunday to hear DJ Kurious spin the best reggae dancehall streaming online! ONE LOVE

About TWINKLE BROTHERS :

The Twinkle Brothers hail from the north coast of Jamaica in the ghettos of Falmouth, the Parish of Trelawny. The two brothers, Norman and Ralston Grant, were baptized in the church of Anglican Diocese. They started singing in the Sunday school choir and concerts at the age of six and eight respectively. At that time they started to make their own instruments since they could no afford to buy them. They made guitars and drums from various tin cans (garbage can, sardine, milk, etc.) and fishing line.

After Jamaica received her independence from England in the early 60’s, the Twinkle Brothers started to sing in real competitions. At that time the government of Jamaica started National Competitions called “Pop and Mento” festivals. In these competitions you would start at Parish level, then go the regional level. If successful there, you move on to the National finals. For years the Twinkle Brothers were Parish champions, then went onto the Regional finals where (according to the crowds and the Twinkle Brothers) they were cheated out of the winning crown for two consecutive years. However, the third time being the charm, they broke the barriers at the Regional finals in Montego Bay, and then went on to the Nationals in Kingston. This time they were victorious, winning first place in the “group” category! Norman won first place in the “solo” category. They reigned supreme for years in that competition coming away with several medals.
