After dominating the dancehall scene with so many hits, Ce’Cile finally released her debut album titled ‘Bad Gyal’. Ce’Cile’s ‘Bad Gyal’ album release on the Japanese label outfit, Avex, took place in Tokyo on September 5.
The album contains 15 masterly created tracks and features a healthy mix of popular and new tracks with a blend of different genres. Ce’Cile, who spent a few weeks in Japan promoting the newly released album, came back home on a high following the response she received in that country. While there, she did a photo shoot for a clothing company, interviews with newspapers and magazines in Her first stop was at the Ageha, one of the biggestclubs in Tokyo. She then went on to Nagoya for Reggae Explosion where she performed alongside Sugar Minott and others. Her final stint was another club setting with homester Junko and that went very well with most of the Japanese female dancehall fans referring to themselves as ‘bad gyals!’ Among the tracks on ‘Bad Gyal’ are ‘Goody’, ‘Jamdown’, ‘Hot Like That‘ (featuring Trina), ‘Give It To Me’ (one of her old songs which is still blazing the place in Japan) and ‘Only Faking’. In Jamaica, her single ‘I’m Waiting’ is on three major charts and seems set to go places. The song is also featured on the Jamdown riddim medley video with and full-length video for it released earlier this month. Both video and song are enjoying good airplay In the meantime, Ce’Cile is now focusing on taking her career to the next level as she now has her own show on TEMPO called ‘On De Stage’. Kingston, Jamaica: - Duane Stephenson is the bright new sound on the Jamaican reggae music scene. Stephenson formerly of To-Isis is now pursuing a solo career and has just released his first album From August Town on the VP label. The album features mostly new material with a few familiar tracks. The video for Fairy Tale, one of the high quality songs on the album, has just been released.Fairy Tale is a soothing ode to the struggles of life and is aimed at inspiring the oppressed and disheartened. With good composition and arrangement, thanks to the mastery of reggae icon Dean Fraser, the song is a hit. The video for Fairy Tale directed by Oral Napier featuring Lamont Savary on Acoustic guitar was shot in Kingston and successfully mirrors the message that the song conveys. According to Duane Fairy Tale is an ode to all who have had to come through struggle. JAH CURE Born in the parish of Hanover, Jamaica but raised in Kingston Town, golden voiced singer Jah Cure (real name Siccature Alcock) became involved with reggae music as a teenager, rapidly rose to fame in the late ’90s only to have his meteoric climb to the top halted by a jail sentence. In 1997 and only 18 years old, Jah Cure released the culturally minded single “King In This Jungle”, a duet with Sizzla and produced by Beres Hammond. The single was a pivotal moment for Cure for a couple reasons. Hammond would become the singer’s biggest champion while Sizzla was to introduce Cure to the world of the Bobo Dread, a sect of Rastafari that usually lives communally, strives to point out social injustice, and has experienced numerous shakedowns by the Jamaican police. A steady stream of singles – most produced by Hammond – had more and more Jamaicans singing the praises of this new singer. Find out more here. Subscribe to the BOOM SHOTS Podcast: |
