SNMWF 2006 in less than two weeks

In less than two weeks the 13th Annual Sierra Nevada World Music Festival will be held at it’s new location, the serene and peaceful, Anderson Valley of Mendocino County California . The three day music festival on June 23rd, 24th, and 25th 2006 will be taking over the little town of Boonville California, providing great Reggae and World music and culture in return.

The people behind SNWMF are pros by now, putting on the yearly festival, since 1993, and now in their third location. Their first shows in Marysville, California were paving the way for many outstanding festivals to come. Some highlights of the “Marysville” years were seeing the Gladiators reunion with Albert Griffiths and Clinton Fearon together once again. And who can forget the brief but treasured, Israel Vibration Reunion, with Skelly, Wiss, and Apple. A rare performance from a man who has contributed more to reggae music than he is given credit, the great Vivian Jackson A.k.a. Yabby You. He produced Artists like Michael Prophet and Earl Sixteen, who will be performing at this upcoming festival.

The Angels Camp years were quite good to reggae fans as well, with a larger venue two stages, and a Dance hall for sound systems and DJ’s. The smaller village stage gave audiences a more personal and intimate concert experience, amongst tall oak trees and a “village” of vendors selling  food, drinks, arts and crafts, all close at hand. A great place for the kids to hang out was provided for families with children at the festival, with lots of things to keep them busy. Last year there was even a skate ramp, nuff things a gwan.

The main stage was host to many a solid line up of artists, including Buju Banton, Burning Spear, Twinkle Brothers and Della Grant, Toots and The Maytals, Cocoa Tea, Don Carlos, Sugar Minott, Prezident Brown, Gentleman, U Roy, Sister Carol, Mutabaruka, just to name a few. The smaller Village stage had many great performers grace its presence. Bushman, Wadi Gad, Midnite, Warrior King were all memorable shows.

The latest update on Sierra Nevada World Music Festival is that Fantan Mojah has been added to the line up. This newer artist is winning over fans with his Rasta inspired lyrics and is bringing roots and culture style to the Dance hall. Also performing will be Misty in Roots, Cocoa Tea, Jah Shaka, Willie Williams, Gregory Isaacs, Rico Rodriguez, Culture, Don Carlos,  Mad  Professor, Cornell Campbell, U Roy, Ras Michael and many more. For the complete line up go to for details on music, directions, tickets, and camping or lodging.

Give Thanks, for it is summer festival time again, trod on with a humble heart and a clean meditation. Be courteous in all your doings, and Jah Guide and Protect the I. Remember to smile and thank someone who is working hard at “Sierra”  to help create memories for us all. The volunteers and the staff are the backbone of the festival so Big em’ up, Seen.
