Beenie Man got roaring applause at 35th American Music Awards

Over forty million viewers worldwide including Jamaicans had their eyes glued to their televisions sets last Sunday night for the staging of the 35th American Music Awards which featured dancehall top mega superstar Beenie Man, Junior ‘One Blood’ Reid and Chaka Demus & Pliers.

The high point of the night, however, from a Jamaican perspective was definitely when Beenie Man hit the stage singing ‘Who Am I‘ to a huge roar as he joined Alicia Keys.

Prior to Beenie Man’s performance Junior ‘One Blood’ Reid and Chaka Demus also got a huge welcome from the fans on hand.

Despite his many ordeals, Beenie Man consistently remains one of Jamaica’s most beloved dancehall acts who can be called upon to perform on any stage worldwide as he knows how to connect with the audience.

The entertainer extraordinaire has given a commitment, that come January 2008, he will be sponsoring five children who will be selected based on recommendations from media houses by way of a competition that will be aired on TV and radio stations and published in newspapers. All five will be drawn from high schools. They will receive school supplies for the rest of the school year.

In addition to that, 10,000 CDs from his ‘Undisputable’ album and 10,000 DVDs with all his music videos including two live performances will be given away in December.

The ‘giveaways’ continue throughout December with Beenie Man performing on a number of shows for free. These shows include the much anticipated West Kingston Jamboree on December 2, Island Xplosion in Clarendon on December 24, Christmas Xtravaganza in St. Elizabeth on December 25, Teen Splash at James Bond Beach on December 26 and another event at the Windalco Complex, St. Catherine on December 31.
